Remembering Horehound Beer: A Bundaberg Classic

Let’s take a moment to reflect on a beloved classic from the Bundaberg Brewed Drinks range – Horehound Beer. Although it’s been off the shelves for years, this unique Bundaberg brew still holds a special place in the hearts of many who enjoyed it.
So, what exactly is horehound? It’s a flowering herb from the mint family, found in many parts of the world, including Australia and New Zealand, where it’s considered a noxious weed. Historically, horehound has been used for its medicinal properties and was a popular ingredient in old-fashioned lollies, cordials, and home-brewed ales.
Bundaberg’s Horehound Beer was a non-alcoholic soft drink, brewed using traditional methods with real horehound hops and herbs. Packaged in our iconic stubby bottles, it offered a one-of-a-kind flavour that’s hard to put into words. Some described it as sweet yet bitter, hoppy and herby, with a dryness unlike any other soft drink. While sarsaparilla is the closest current option, Horehound Beer truly stood alone in taste.

Sadly, there are no plans to bring Horehound Beer back at this time, but Bundaberg Brewed Drinks is proud to have created memories for so many fans.
If you remember Horehound Beer, share your thoughts and let us know how you’d describe its unforgettable flavour!
